I've been meaning to try XYZ for months now, so was excited to review the Causeway Bay studio for Move with MeTime’s first feature!  Here's what I found:

The classes:

XYZ offers two main spin classes and I tried both.  “Born to move” is an upbeat and 'bouncy' class. “Grow Young” is focused on resistance training. Both classes combine upper body and core strength work with cycling, which is different to any other spin class I have taken before.  At the end of the class I really felt like I had completed a full body work out! Steph (the instructor) was great; very welcoming, enthusiastic and pushed us hard.

XYZ has two facilities: Causeway Bay and Central.  Each location provides 7-10 classes every day (check the schedule on their website:   Classes can be booked through XYZ's online scheduling system or over the phone.

The facility:

I loved the décor and ambiance of the Causeway Bay studio. It is not a huge facility, but it has a really cool design and is different to your average Hong Kong gym.

The cost:

Trial rides are $270, and drop-in sessions after that are $350 a ride. You can also buy packages of multiple rides, which are going to be more cost-effective. Look out for XYZ's 'buddy rides': You and your friend can ride for the price of one person!

WOW factor:

The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly – they were totally sympathetic when I managed to lock myself out of my locker three times!  I would also definitely recommend leaving yourself enough time after class for a shower – unlike some gyms, the shampoo and conditioner are fabulous and left my hair smelling wonderful and silky smooth for days!

Could have done better:

The first class I went to (a Wednesday lunchtime) was very empty. It was strange cycling in such a quiet room! However, the next class I went to (Thursday morning) was packed and had more atmosphere, so the busy-ness seems to depend on the day and time of the class.

Overall experience:

I loved it. Very different to your regular spin class for all the right reasons. I enjoyed my first class so much that I booked in for the next week’s class immediately after and will continue to go back. My only regret was not wearing brightly coloured gym gear to take advantage of the fun UV lights!
