With Chinese New Year fast approaching, here are a few beauty traditions to make sure you are ready to celebrate the festive season and starting the Year of the Dog with good fortune!

1) Traditionally people avoid cutting or washing hair during Chinese New Year – as hair (髮) sounds like fortune or wealth (發). What better excuse to treat yourself to a fancy new ‘do in the lead up? Book yourself in ahead of time to save your hair / fortune in the new year!

2) Looking your best during the celebrations is critical. Make sure you have a fresh set of nails to show off at all the family gatherings and dinners. Colours like red and gold are a popular choice for some extra luck, but why not add some cute nail art for a little more wow-factor! Manicures and pedicures are just not for the ladies, gentlemen – make sure your nails are in order too for giving or receiving red packets!

3) Don’t let yourself be caught with a dull and tired-looking complexion! The fortune god will only approach you if you are looking alert and radiant, so indulge yourself with a facial to make sure your skin is glowing looking at its best.

And finally…

4) Escape the festivities for some much needed rest and relaxation by booking yourself in for a massage of your choice. Remember that places may have different opening hours during the holiday period so make sure to call ahead when booking your 'me time'.
